不能按照英文的字面意思來直譯，

不然句子翻譯出來

難免會(huì)鬧出笑話來！

今天舉的例子就是：

ten to one

“ten to one”從表面上來看

是10到1

但它正確的意思是：

ten to one = something very likely

可以翻譯成“很有可能”

或是“十有八九”

例：

①Ten to one the teacher made a mistake.

很可能老師犯了一個(gè)錯(cuò)誤。

②No one knows for sure how they"re going to deal with this problem, but ten to one it"s I who have to be responsible.

沒有人確定他們將如何處理這個(gè)問題，但很有可能我會(huì)對(duì)此負(fù)責(zé)。

而 from one to ten 才是“從一到十”的意思！

count to ten

count to ten字面意思是“數(shù)到十”，

不過當(dāng)你很生氣的時(shí)候，

老外說“count to ten”，是希望你：

花點(diǎn)時(shí)間冷靜下來

（類似于我們常說的“深呼吸，冷靜一下”）

下面是這個(gè)俚語(yǔ)的英文解釋：

To take a moment to calm down, especially when angry, before doing anything rash or hasty. Used as an imperative, it can but doesn"t necessarily mean to literally count to the number ten.

在做任何輕率或倉(cāng)促的事情之前，花一點(diǎn)時(shí)間使自己冷靜下來，尤其是在生氣時(shí)。一般使用時(shí)都有命令的口氣，它可以但不一定意味著字面上的數(shù)到十。

類似于中文說做什么有風(fēng)險(xiǎn)的事情之前要三思，并不是真的要去思考三次，就是指要認(rèn)真思考，反復(fù)思考再做決定。

例：

Before you tell him what you think of him, count to ten.

在你告訴他你對(duì)他的看法之前，要三思。

take ten 不是 “拿十個(gè)”

好的，場(chǎng)景是這樣的

你的老板正在和你們開會(huì)

當(dāng)他講了一些內(nèi)容，告一段落之后

對(duì)大家說：

“All right, fellas, take ten.”

你會(huì)怎么理解?

好的，同志們，讓我們拿起十個(gè)???

怎么感覺不太對(duì)呢?

這里的take ten其實(shí)是“休息一下”的意思

和它類似的還有take five

If someone tells you to take five or to take ten, they are telling you to have a five- or ten-minute break from what you are doing.

如果有人和你說take five或take ten，他們的意思就是告訴你從正在做的事情中間休息5或者10分鐘。

例：

The players took ten during the long rehearsal.

在長(zhǎng)時(shí)間的排練中間，演員們休息了十分鐘。

I"ve been painting all morning, can I please take ten?

我都花了一早上了，我能休息十分鐘嗎?
